HELLENISTIC BRONZE ASKOS

The body of hammered sheet, the foot made separately, with an ornate “vegetable stemmed” cast handle with the face of Helios at the base. The sun-god Helios was omniscient, and so presided over the realm of Oaths. His appearance on a wine vessel was uniquely appropriate.
