Rare Hephthalite gold ring with flat D-shaped shank and flared elliptical bezel

A large gold granule fused to the upper edge of the bezel raised from the shoulder on a stack of 3 smaller granules, a style abstracted from Sasanian archer's rings. Bezel set with a carnelian deeply cut intaglio of a male portrait head in left profile, moustached, wearing a large earring.

6th - 7th Centuries AD
